The Tony Award winning drama, War Horse, is at the Boston Opera House for a two-week run this week and next.

The play, based off the book of the same name by Michael Morpurgo, was adapted by Nick Stafford for the stage production. Despite the author’s hesitance, the play opened to huge success on Broadway in 2011. Set during World War 1, the protagonist Albert’s horse, Joey is sent into the army, serving on both the British and German sides. Albert, too young to join the army but not ready to let go of his friend, embarks on a dangerous journey to search and rescue his beloved horse.

Winner of two Laurence Oliver Awards and six Tony Awards, the show has been a critical and commercial success. Realistic horses are played by life-size puppets from South Africa’s Handspring Puppet Company to bring to life the breathing, galloping, charging horses, strong enough for men to ride.

Show times for “War Horse” at the Opera House are at 7:30 PM from Tuesdays to Thursdays, 8:00 PM on Fridays and Saturdays, and 6:30 PM on Sundays. Matinee performances are at 2:00 PM on Saturdays and 1:00 PM on Sundays. A special matinee performance will be held on Thursday, October 11 at 1:00 PM. The performance running time is 2 hours and 40 minutes including 1 intermission.

Tickets are still available here at Ace.
