Jon Lester proved he is back and ready for October, allowing just two hits over 6 1/3 shutout innings as the Boston Red Sox went on to win over the Cleveland Indians 3-0 yesterday at Fenway. Fellow players and coaches were glad to see the 15-8 Lester back in regular form after his dismal outing last Friday against the New York Yankees, where he served up eight hits with a side of five runs in two innings pitched.

“I think it’s a relief just to see him pitch again,” said third baseman Mike Lowell. “We were all very relieved. He was very effective, which is a good thing going into his next start, which is going to be very big for us.” Lester will likely get the nod for Game 1 of the ALDS against the Los Angeles Angels.  For now the Sox have three more regular season contests left with Cleveland before heading into the playoffs.
