NBA to Penalize Players for Flopping

The NBA is currently working on a solution to prevent players from flopping. There has been an increase in players tricking officials to call fouls after little to no contact. Commissioner David Stern took notice to the issue during the playoffs last season.

“If you continue to do this, you may you have to suffer some consequences,” he said. “What those exactly should be and what the progression is, is to be decided, because … we just want to put a stake in the ground that says this is not something that we want to be part of our game, without coming down with a sledgehammer but just doing it in a minimalist way to begin stamping it out. And I think there are ways we can do that and we’ll have to wait and see exactly what we come up with.”

Penalties for flopping will likely result in a fine rather than a technical foul called during the game. The NBA regular season is set to kick-off Tuesday, October 30th. The Boston Celtics will begin their campaign at Miami while the Cleveland Cavaliers host the Washington Wizards. The Dallas Mavericks and LA Lakers will open things up on the west coast at the Staples Center. Check back for additional NBA updates.
