Stevan Ridley exploded for 125 yards and 1 touchdown from 21 carries to lift the New England Patriots past the Tennessee Titans in their regular season opener 34-13 Sunday at LP Field. Tom Brady hit tight ends Aaron Hernandez and Rob Gronkowski in the end zone to move up to fifth ahead of John Elway on the NFL’s list of all-time touchdown leaders.

Brandon Lloyd, the Pats newest addition at wide receiver, caught six passes for 69 yards and was targeted eight times.

The New England defense contributed for six early in the second quarter when rookie linebacker Dont’a Hightower returned a fumble six yards for a TD. The team held Chris Johnson to just four yards on 11 carries and also knocked Tennessee quarterback Jake Locker out of the game in the fourth quarter.

“This is something that can be a backbone for us,” said Patriots defensive tackle Vince Wilfork. ” To hold a great back to only 4 yards, that was good defense.” The Pats are now back to the practice field in preparation for their Week 2 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals at home Sunday, September 16th.
