Despite losing key pieces to their dominant defense in Michael Strahan (retirement) and Osi Umenyiora (injury) the New York Giants defense was on point against the Washington Redskins on opening night. The Giants held the Redskins to just 7 points and 209 total yards. Washington’s offense was only 3 for 13 on 3rd down conversions giving punter Durant Brooks a nice workout.
The Giants did all of their offensive damage in the 1st half, scoring a touchdown on their opening drive adding 3 field goals on their next 3 possessions. Plaxico Burress who had just signed an improved contract with the Giants had a great receiving night with 10 receptions good for 133 total yards.
