Broadway Spider-Man Announces Cast

Posted by Ace Staff on August 31st, 2010 in Theatre

Amidst all the horror stories that have come out of the musical production of Spider-Man, Turn Off the Dark, there finally seems to be a silver lining for the play that seemed would forever be deferred.  Lead producer Michael Cohl has announced the complete cast for Spider-Man, for which rehearsals have been in full swing for the past two weeks. With the cast came a starting date:  preview performances at the Foxwoods Theatre, formerly the Hilton Theatre, on November 14th and will open to the public on December 21st.

Joining previously announced stars Reeve Carney, as Peter Parker, Jennifer Damiano as Mary Jane Watson and Patrick Page as Norman Osborn/Green Goblin are Natalie Mendoza, Michael Mulheren, Ken Marks, Isabel Keating, Jeb Brown, T.V. Carpio, Mat Devine, Gideon Glick, Jonathan Schwartz, Matthew James Thomas, Laura Beth Wells, Matt Caplan, Dwayne Clark, Luther Creek, Gerald Avery, Collin Baja, Marcus Bellamy, Emmanuel Brown, Erin Elliott, Dana Marie Ingraham, Ayo Janeen Jackson, Heather Lang, Ari Loeb, Natalie Lomonte, Kevin Loomis, Kristin Martin, Jodi McFadden, Kristen Oei, America Olivo, Jennifer Perry, Kyle Post, Brandon Rubendall, Sean Samuels, Dollar Tan and Christopher Tierney.

Some names that may look familiar include Isabel Keating, who appeared as Judy Garland in “The Boy From Oz,” Michael Mulheren of “Looped,” “Kiss Me Kate” and Gideon Glick of “Spring Awakening”. Also on board are Brit actress Natalie Mendoza of “The Descent”, U.K. TV actor Matthew James Thomas of “Britannia High”, and dance veterans Ayo Janeen Jackson and Dollar Tan. Although roles for the rest of the cast were not confirmed, Keating seems a likely Aunt May, with Mulheren possibly playing J. Jonah Jameson.

Drawing from more than 40 years of Marvel comic books for inspiration, Spider-Man, Turn Off The Dark is an original story both recognizable and unexpected–yielding new characters as well as familiar faces–until a final surprising confrontation casts a startling new light on this hero’s journey. Directed by Julie Taymor and featuring music and lyrics by Bono and The Edge, Spider-Man, Turn Off The Dark will open the night of December 21st. The show is currently booking through to April 17 2011. Tickets go on sale to the general public in Sep 2010. The show is appropriately showing in New York City’s Foxwoods Theater, located in the heart of the city that doubles as the set of the musical.
