Boston first baseman Adrian Gonzalez was placed on trade waivers and claimed by the Los Angeles Dodgers earlier this afternoon. The Red Sox have 72 hours to pull Gonzalez back off of waivers, work out a trade with the Dodgers, or allow the Dodgers to simply pickup his contract. The eight-year veteran has $127 million and six years remaining on his current deal.
The LA Times mentioned a potential deal that would also involve Josh Beckett and Carl Crawford heading to Los Angeles for multiple top prospects.
Gonzalez is batting .301 with 15 homers, 37 doubles and 85 RBIs this season. The Red Sox are scheduled to begin their four-game home stand against the Kansas City Royals tonight before visiting the LA Angels for three games starting Tuesday, August 28th.
