Although there isn’t much to talk or be excited about in regards to this year’s Boston Red Sox, the Fenway Faithful was treated to a special night on Tuesday as the organization payed tribute to the legendary Johnny Pesky, who died last Monday at the age of 92.

All members of the Red Sox wore No. 6 in his honor. The number was also cut into the outfield grass behind shortstop where Pesky played during his 10-year playing career. Pesky’s son David threw out the ceremonial first pitch caught by David Ortiz.

“Johnny was legendary,” Ortiz said. “He had a wonderful career, and not only that, he went to World War II and represented all of us. We’re not just talking about a baseball player. It was a great honor for me to get to meet him, spend some time and have some great memories from him. Seeing his family struggle (during the funeral on Monday) was a little hard.”

The Red Sox couldn’t deliver a win to cap the special night, falling 5-3 to the LA Angels. They have two games left against the Angels before they host the Kansas City Royals for four games starting Friday, August 24th. Regular season Boston Red Sox tickets are still available here at Ace!
