Former New York Giants receiver Plaxico Burress has just pleaded guilty to a weapons charge, and has agreed to a two-year prison term for accidentally shooting himself at a Manhattan nightclub.  If convicted at a trial, he could face a maximum sentence up to 3 1/2 years.  “This was not an intentional criminal act,” said attorney Benjamin Brafman. “In my judgment, a two-year prison sentence is a very severe punishment.”  If Burress behaves in prison the sentence could be reduced to 20 months.

The Giants organization wishes the best for Burress, but has since moved on to focus on the 2009-2010 regular season ahead.  They are coming off a spectacular preseason thriller against the Chicago Bears, and will ride that momentum to Saturday’s game when they host the New York Jets at Giant Stadium.  Their first official regular season game is set for Sunday, September 13th against the Washington Redskins.

All New York Giants regular season tickets are now available!
