Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine isn’t one to hold back his opinions, recently stating that Boston should be in the playoffs despite their current record just under .500. The Sox are nine games behind the New York Yankees in the AL East and 4 1/2 games out of the second wild card spot.
“I think we’re a playoff team and I think we’re going to be there before the season is over,” he told WEEI Wednesday morning. “I think it’s realistic if we stay healthy. Right now we have some concerns in the bullpen. If that stabilizes I think there’s big runs ahead.”
Vicente Padilla is the most recent player to be placed on the disabled list by the Red Sox with biceps/triceps/groin injuries. Reliever Clayton Mortensen will fill the position, marking the fifth time he’s been called up from Pawtucket. David Ortiz is hoping to be back in the lineup this weekend after weeks of rehabbing a right Achilles strain. The 15-year veteran hit .316 with 23 homers and 58 RBIs before landing on the DL July 16th. Boston Red Sox tickets are now available!
