Eli Manning has agreed to a six-year $97-million contract extension with the New York Giants. The new deal that gives Manning an average salary of $15.3-million pays an average of $200,000 more than the second highest paid player; All-Pro cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha, who just this year signed a $45.3-million dollar three-year contract with the Oakland Raiders. The contract ensures that Manning will remain a Giant through the 2015 season.
Giants general manager Jerry Reese was very pleased with the deal, saying “He is a franchise quarterback. He has done everything we asked him to do. He has come in, taken a lot of flack from you guys [the media] and he just keeps going. He does what we ask him on the field and he does what we ask him to do off the field. He is a good football player.” Eli Manning and the Giants will kick off their first regular season game against the Washington Redskins at Giants Stadium Sunday, September 13th at 4:15 pm.
