A Chicken Fried Night with the Zac Brown Band

Zac Brown has probably one of the coolest stories in DIY music history. A self made musician, Brown began touring in 2002 with a schedule of roughly 200 dates a year and we in New England are lucky to get three opportunities to see him and his band live. In 2003 he started his own label (now called Southern Ground) and in 2004 he sold his restaurant, bought a tour bus and began touring full-time as well as releasing the bands first independent album Far from Einstyne.  Originally the band was a three piece consisting of Brown on acoustic guitar and vocals backed by a drummer and a bass guitarist. But as the shows and the years went by, the band continued to grow adding more instruments and more voices for harmonies. By the time the band recorded their major label debut The Foundation in 2006, the band had grown to include violinist/fiddler Jimmy De Martini and Coy Bowles on lead guitar and keyboards.

The Foundation was propelled to success by five singles (!). The first being “Chicken Fried” followed by “Whatever It Is”, “Toes”, “Highway 20 Ride” and “Free”. Three out of the five songs went to number one on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. They also received a Grammy for Best New Artist at the 2010 awards. The bands second album, You Get What You Give in 2010 and it debuted at number one in the Billboard 200 as well as the Top Country Album charts. The album, which features guest spots from Alan Jackson and Jimmy Buffett, is a solid follow up to their debut, featuring the now full complete lineup of the band. The album features their country sound as well as blending in bluegrass, rock and reggae and it is with this combination that the band has gotten rave reviews of their live shows, stretching out songs into jam territory and keeping the crowd energy up.

They are currently touring in support of their latest record, Uncaged, which also debuted at number one. An excellent album that blends the bands sound even further, really showing how they’re coming together as a band a blossoming into more than just a country act.  They are playing two nights in Connecticut at the Mohegan Sun Arena and come to the Comcast Center on September 9th. As always we’ve got seats for these shows and others right here.
