Former New York Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress was recently indicted by a grand jury on three weapons counts for shooting himself in the thigh at a Manhattan nightclub on November 29th of last year. He will be up against a minimum jail sentence of 3 1/2 years if convicted. Burress’s former teammate Antonio Pierce was not indicted, who met in front of the grand jury last week for being present for the unfortunate events and driving Burress to the hospital with the weapon concealed in the car. Giants president John Mara spoke out on the matter, saying “we said last week we felt strongly that Antonio’s actions did not warrant criminal charges, and obviously the grand jury, having heard all of the testimony, felt the same way.” The Giants released Burress in April and he has not been able to sign with another team knowing what he is up against. Facing two counts of criminal possession of a weapon and one count of reckless endangerment, there is a good chance that Burress’s NFL career has already passed him by.
