Patriots second-year running back Stevan Ridley is so far projected to assume the role as New England’s No. 1 back, often called in to lead off drills in the first week of training camp. Former Pats RB BenJarvus Green-Ellis, who played a team-high 34 percent of the running back snaps in 2011, signed with the Cincinnati Bengals this off-season.

Although Ridley appears to be the clear front-runner, the Patriots will likely develop a scheme that also utilizes Danny Woodhead, Shane Vereen and rookie free agent Brandon Bolden.

“It’s a team effort. We have a group of running backs that can all play,” said Ridley. “We all do things differently and we all do them well. For me, I’m just going in there trying to pull my load, as coach says, and so are the other guys. Regardless of who it is going to be, one of us is going to be the starting guy and the next will be ready to step up when we’re tired.” More New England Patriots updates to come!
