Florence and the Machine at Boston HOB

Posted by Ace Staff on July 29th, 2010 in Concerts

The fiery redhead that’s already taken the UK by storm is crossing the Atlantic this fall. Florence and the Machine confirmed a US and Canadian tour last week and has since delivered, announcing eight US tour dates. The band, fronted by vocal vixen Florence Welch, made their US debut back in April with a show at NYC’s Terminal 5 and a performance in front of 40,000 at Coachella in California. Now she’s back for round two, having added three more dates to her forthcoming North American tour. After playing the Voodoo festival in New Orleans, Florence and the band will be at Boston’s House of Blues on Halloween, followed by two NYC shows, two LA shows and two performances in Ontario and Oakland.

Florence and the Machine’s debut album Lungs (2009) was released in last July and has since remained in the UK top 40 for 52 consecutive weeks, making it one of the best selling albums of 2009 and 2010. The band won the “Mastercard British Album” honor at the 2010 Brit awards and headlined at six different European music festivals this summer alone, attracting record crowds at Glastonbury. Of the many acclaims the band has received since their debut, The Times has called Welch “the most peculiar and most highly acclaimed female singer of the moment”.

While a follow-up album is currently in the works and expected to be released in 2011, the band released a preview with the track “Heavy in My Arms”, featured in the third Twilight saga, Eclipse. “The Dog Days Are Over” from Lungs is also featured in the heartening trailer for the upcoming summer flick Eat Pray Love featuring Julia Roberts.
