With music and lyrics by Bono and the Edge, the latest craze on Broadway features the beloved superhero that’s been adorning the comic book and film industry for over 30 years. Peter Parker is now not only a reporter by day, disguised gallant by night but also the first musical “Marvel” of his kind. Spiderman: Turn off the Dark follows the story of teenager Peter Parker, a bullied science-geek, whose unremarkable life is turned upside-down- literally- when he’s bitten by a genetically altered spider and wakes up the next morning with extraordinary and inexplicable powers. He soon learns, however, that with great power comes great responsibility as villains test not only his physical strength but also his strength of character.
While the performance has not yet debuted on Broadway, rehearsals with the cast will be in full swing beginning August 16th. Reeve Carney is set to star as our protagonist Peter Parker and his superhero alter-ego, with rumors of Next to Normal Tony nominee Jennifer Damino to be the show’s female lead, Mary Jane Watson. The Julie Taymor-directed musical spectacle, featuring music from U2’s leading members, was originally set to open at the Hilton Theatre in February, but was postponed until later in the year after troubles arose surrounding the show’s $50 million budget. Subsequently attached stars Rachel Evan Wood and Alan Cumming then dropped out due to scheduling conflicts. Despite the recent tumult, the show is right back on track and looking to debut on Broadway very soon. Check back with AceTicket.com for Spiderman performance date announcements!
