Boston House of Blues Shows This Fall

Posted by Ace Staff on July 16th, 2010 in Concerts

With September approaching quicker than we like to admit comes a fresh batch of concert announcements, beginning with an all-star lineup at the House of Blues. Stars, the Canadian indie band that played a sold-out show at the Paradise Rock Club mere weeks ago, has cemented themselves as one of the more eloquent bands in the indie category- incorporating “lush instrumentation and soft but nuanced vocals” into an electro-pop sound. Stars’ June 2010 album The Five Ghosts, released in June, is the latest installment in the melodramatic, subdued boy-girl harmonies that so well reflect dream-like, romantic tragedy. Stars are scheduled to play the House of Blues on September 23rd. Following Stars are two huge tribute shows: Who’s Bad- the Ultimate Michael Jackson Tribute and Captured- the Journey Tribute Band.

The following week WFNX presents The Temper Trap performing on September 29th with opening bands Delphic and the Hundred in the Hands. Australian Temper Trap debuted on alternative radio with the hit “Sweet Disposition” and their latest commercial success “Love Lost”. Temper Trap’s debut album Conditions (2009) was very well received, having already gone platinum in Australia. The following week electronic-meets- rock duo Ratatat will be performing on October 5th, promoting their latest release, LP4.

Miike Snow will be headlining a show at the House of Blues October 10th in promotion of their self-titled album. Released last October, Miike Snow features the single “Animal” and “Black & Blue”. While their accessible poppy-electronica has provided the soundtrack to many advertisements, the band is best known for their remix work on tracks for Passion Pit, Vampire Weekend and Peter Bjorn and John. Considering this will be their first US tour, it’s a great feat for Miike Snow to make their Boston debut at a venue as vast as the House of Blues. Following up Miike Snow, the Avett Brothers will be playing October 14th in promotion of their 2009 release “I and Love and You” and “Bad Religion” playing the 18th.

The Black Crowes combined the rootsy appeal of their early work with a newfound political awareness on the band’s eighth studio effort, 2009’s Before the Frost/Until the Freeze. The band announced an August 3 release date for the double, all acoustic album Croweology, accompanying a “Say Good Night to the Bad Guys Tour,” which will feature two 90-minute sets at the majority of shows: 1 acoustic and 1 electric. Playing the House of Blues both October 22nd and 23rd for what ought to be an unforgettable set, the Black Crowes have already decided that there will be a hiatus following their fall 2010 tour. The month of November will then be brought in with Social Distortion on the 1st, Matt and Kim on the 4th, the Irish-natives the Script on the 7th and Jon McLaughlin and the 4th Dimension on the 16th. Brooklyn-based duo Matt and Kim provided us with the alternative rock anthem “Daylight” last summer from 2009’s Grand and are already working on a follow up for this fall to accompany their tour.
