Durant Scores 24 in USA Win Over DR

By on July 13, 2012 in

Three-time NBA scoring champion Kevin Durant shot 9-of-11 from the field for 24 points and collected 10 rebounds, leading his team of fellow All-Stars to win big over the Dominican Republic 113-59 in Team USA’s first exhibition contest Thursday night at Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas.  The 2010 World Basketball Championship MVP came off the bench for Carmelo Anthony and caught fire in the 22 minutes he was on the floor.

“It was cool to come off the bench for the first time,” said Durant. “Wherever they need that spark, I’m going to try to come out and give them that spark. So I was looking forward to having different roles playing with USA, so it was kind of fun for me, actually.”

Andre Iguodala added 18 points for the U.S. and Anthony followed up with 13. Elipidio Fortuna led the DR with 10 points, as the team struggled to find their rhythm on offense in all four quarters. “The way we’re playing is exactly the way we should play, I think, with this group of athletes and with the depth that we have,” said USA head coach Mike Krzyzewski. “We have good depth, especially on the perimeter.” More NBA and Team USA updates to come!
