Heading into the 80th all star game in St. Louis, Red Sox nation will be seeing new faces as well as old faces. With the most players on one team, the Sox are sending in six players this year. With 3 hitters and 3 pitchers, the Sox look to represent both sides of the American League during the all star game. Reigning MVP Dustin Pedrioa is making the start at second base despite an off year so far. Jason Bay is making his first appearance at a all star game in a Sox uniform (made all star team twice in Pittsburgh). Marking his ground in left field, Bay is leading the AL in RBI’s with 70. First baseman Kevin Youkilis will be a reserve to begin the game, just losing to Mark Texiera for the starting position. Pitchers Josh Beckett, Jonathan Papelbon, and Tim Wakefield made it on the mound. Beckett is 9-3, Wakefield is 10-3, and Papelbon is 1-1 with 20 saves. After 15 years with the Red Sox, Wakefield has finally made the all star team for the first time. With making the all star game and representing the city he’s played for for so long, Wakefield might just continue his dominate pitching in the 2nd half and possibly the playoffs.
