Despite having a native going for the lightweight title, there will not be any UFC events in Massachusetts until at least the second quarter of 2010. Despite plans for the Garden to host a mixed martial arts even in November, the slow legislative process that governs such events has delayed it. State Senator James Timilty has been championing the cause. An MMA fan himself, Timilty is working to have the state boxing commission regulate the events. With little-to-no opposition, state approval seems inevitable, but not for at least six months.
