NBA Draft Recap: Wizards Select Wall at No. 1

Posted by Ace Staff on June 25th, 2010 in Sports

With the No. 1 overall pick in the 2010 NBA draft, the Washington Wizards selected Kentucky point guard John Wall with hopes to turn around the franchise after a frustrating season both on and off the court. Wall averaged 17 points and 7 assists during his time running the show last year for the Wildcats and is expected to make an immediate impact at the professional level.

“I feel like I had pressure since I became No. 1 in high school and was one of the top players,” he said. “I always got there hungry wanting to fight hard and compete in every game, so when I step on the court I’m going to take on any challenge there.” The Wizards also brought in Kirk Hinrich along with the 17th pick in light of the Chicago Bulls clearing cap space to sign one of the marquee free agents available come July 1st.

Kentucky became the first school to put five of their own players through in the first round between Wall, DeMarus Cousins (No. 5 Kings), Patrick Patterson (No 14. Rockets), Eric Bledsoe (No. 18 Thunder) and Daniel Orton (No. 29 Orlando Magic). Other notable selections are Evan Turner (No. 2 76ers), Derrick Favors (No 3. Nets), Ed Davis (No. 13 Raptors) and Avery Bradley (No 19. Celtics). Check for more 2010 NBA updates right here at Ace!
