David Ortiz ignited the Red Sox offense with a home run to deep right,  sparking a three-run sixth inning to lead Boston past the Baltimore Orioles 8-6 yesterday at Camden Yards. Dustin Pedroia contributed two RBIs and Mike Aviles scored the go-ahead run in the seventh, lifting the Red Sox to their ninth victory in 11 games.

“We got a lead and we gave it up and we weren’t going to be denied,” said Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine. “I thought David’s home run really uplifted us. It was such a power stroke.”

Clay Buchholz let up five runs on six hits during his 5 2/3 innings on the mound. Boston’s bullpen checked in to allow just one more run in the remaining four innings between Andrew Miller, Rich Hill, Vicente Padilla and Alfredo Aceves. The Red Sox have battled their way back to a .500 record with two more games left in Baltimore before they return home to welcome the Tampa Bay Rays for three games starting Friday, May 25th.
