Left-fielder Carl Crawford sent one off the Green Monster to score pinch-runner Jose Iglesias on a close play at the plate in the bottom of the 11th for the Boston Red Sox to win over the Minnesota Twins 2-1 last night at Fenway Park. The newly acquired Crawford has built a nine-game hitting streak after posting a .135 average to start the season. “It’s always nice to get walk-offs,” he said after the game. “I’ll take ‘em all the time.”
Adrian Gonzalez knocked in Jason Varitek with a single to left in the 5th inning for Boston’s first run. Minnesota rallied to match with a run of their own in the eighth, eventually setting the stage for Crawford in the end. Hideki Okajima pitched two innings and managed to escape out of a two-on, one-out situation in each to notch the win. Boston is scheduled to matchup with the Toronto Blue Jays for two games this week before traveling to the Bronx to battle the New York Yankees.
