Ellsbury Steals Home as Sox Sweep Yankees

Posted by Ace Staff on April 27th, 2009 in Homepage, Sports

When Jacoby Ellsbury noticed Andy Pettite pitching from the wind-up with the bases loaded, he knew he had a chance to do something. “I was pretty confident that I could get in there,” Ellsbury told the AP’s Howard Ulman. Ellsbury exploited a slow delivery in what would become the first straight steal of home at Fenway in fifteen years.

Justin Masterson had another solid (although short) outing, giving up one run on six hits and a walk across 5 1/3 innings. Sox prospect Michael Bowden thew two perfect innings with two K’s to bridge the gap to Takashi Saito. Saito notched his second save, and is making a serious case to be the Sox go-to setup man.

With the sweep the Sox run their winning streak to ten games,  just one game behind the solid-looking Toronto Blue Jays. The Sox travel to Cleveland to face the Indians for a 3 game set starting on Monday.
