Garnett Likely Sidelined for Celtics Playoffs

Posted by Ace Staff on April 16th, 2009 in Sports

Celtics coach Doc Rivers confirmed this morning that All-Star forward  Kevin Garnett will not be available at all for the 2009 post-season.  Sources say Garnett is only 70 percent healed from his knee injury, which first bothered him in a game against the Utah Jazz on February 19th.  He will continue to get treatment with hopes of coming back for the later rounds of the playoffs.

After a 20 minute work-out session early this morning, Rivers knew that there was no chance for Garnett to come back for the first two rounds.  “This was an honest run today, you couldn’t fake your way through it.” said Rivers. “The guy is a warrior, you can see him trying to mask it, but after 20 minutes of running, there’s just no way…If he can’t get through biking and working out without swelling and stiffness and his leg locking, I just don’t know how you play in the playoffs.”

Game one of the first round will be held Saturday, April 18th at the TD Banknorth Garden vs. the Chicago Bulls.  Boston Celtics tickets are now available.
