Thanks to goalie Tim Thomas and center Chris Kelley, The Boston Bruins won Game 1 of the first round of the playoffs in dramatic fashion. The game remained scoreless until overtime when Kelley’s slapshot slipped through Washington Capital’s goalie Braden Holtby.
Both team goalies played phenomenal defense. The Capitals made 17 shots on goal, but Thomas continued his postseason dominance from last season and blocked them all. Against Holtby, the Bruins made 30 shots on goal, but it only took one to get in to give the Bruins a win.
After playing well the entire game, and out-shooting the Capitals during the first and second periods, it only took a minute and a few seconds into overtime for the Bruins to finally score.
Washington did win the season series against Boston and with star left-winger Alex Ovechkin on their side, it looks to be an exciting, competitive series.
It’s a good win for the Bruins at home and they’ll play Game 2 in the TD Garden on Saturday afternoon before heading to Washington for Games 3 and 4. The team has a long journey ahead of them in order to defend the Stanley Cup, but it’s always good to win Game 1 in order to build momentum.
