Daisuke Matsuzaka will make his season debut today at 1:35 pm to help the Red Sox clinch their first series of the regular season against the Tampa Bay Rays.  After a 5-3 opening day win at Fenway, Boston was silenced last night losing 2-7 to a hungry Rays team.

Jon Lester did not show his best as he let up five runs in five innings, including a Carlos Pena two-run homer to center in the fifth. Scott Kazmir pitched 6 innings for the Rays and let up only one run. Boston produced eight total hits, but could never get a streak going in one specific inning.

Kevin Youkilis was the only Red Sox player to come up with multiple hits. “I think we continued throughout the whole game to try to put together good at-bats,” said Varitek. “I think we did that. They were a little better than us today.”

The last time the Red Sox saw Rays pitcher Matt Garza was game 7 of the 2008 ALCS.  They get to see him now in the in rubber match of the first series of the 2009 season. “We’ve seen him for two years,” said Boston manager Terry Francona. “We’re excited to watch him pitch. It’ll be nice to watch him show up tomorrow and attack the zone, and hopefully, he’ll be out there until about the seventh.”

Boston Red Sox tickets are now available!
