With the 2-1 win against the New York Rangers on Sunday April 1, the Boston Bruins have clinched first place in the Northeast Division as well as a playoff spot. Tim Thomas was the winning goalie for the Bruins, saving 33 and only allowing one in in the first period to Rangers’ right wing Marian Gaborik.

The Bruins got two goals in the second period, one from defenseman Dennis Seidenberg and a second from center Patrice Bergeron. Neither team could score in the third, and the Bruins finished off the night with their first win over the Rangers this season and a spot in the playoffs.

With the Rangers holding onto the #1 seed in the Eastern Conference, the Bruins are in the #2 seed and anticipate that the two teams may meet again in the playoffs. If that is the case, this win was particularly important because it shows the Rangers that the Bruins are not an easy team to beat. The Bruins have only three games left, two at home against the Penguins and Sabres and one away against the Senators. Having now won five out of their last six, the team wants to make a strong finish heading into the playoffs.
