Red Sox Yankees Opening Day Preview

Posted by Ace Staff on April 2nd, 2010 in Sports

Following the New York Yankees successful run for their 27th championship in 2009, the Boston Red Sox front office struck back to make a handful of crucial acquisitions this offseason. Despite losing strength in the batting order after Jayson Bay went on to sign with the New York Mets, the Sox were able to upgrade their outfield by signing Mike Cameron to play center while shifting the young Jacoby Ellsbury to left. Their most crucial deal in 2010 brought in ace pitcher John Lackey to join the already strong rotation between Josh Beckett, Jon Lester, Clay Buchholz, Daisuke Matsuzaka and Tim Wakefield.

The Yanks may have lost the hot-stove war, but it doesn’t mean they went quietly through the fall and winter months. They added some pitching and offense with Javier Vazquez and Curtis Granderson. The AL East is shaping up to represent baseball’s most competitive division with Boston, New York and the Tampa Bay Rays

Red Sox General Manager Theo Epstein has one more contract to take care of this season. It’s evident that the Sox are working hard to keep ace pitcher Josh Beckett in Boston, working on a deal to keep him around until 2014 for $70 million. The Red Sox and Yankees are first set to square off Sunday, April 4th at Fenway Park for the start of their opening three-game series.
