Boston Red Sox infielder Kevin Youkilis has recently been diagnosed with a mild left ankle sprain and tendinitis in his left Achilles. He returned to Fort Myers, Florida to join the Sox in spring training to begin the healing process, and is not likely to make a return to the World Baseball Classic.
Youkilis has been a major contributor for the United States team. In their last game against Puerto Rico he had a homerun and two RBI’s. “There’s a good possibility that Youkilis may be off the roster,” said team U.S.A. manager Davey Johnson. “He played with kind of a sprained ankle the other night. I have a bad feeling.”
Hopefully the U.S. can find a way to carry on with out Youkilis. They will be playing Venezuela on Wednesday night, which will be a game to decide seeding for the final rounds.
