Tomas Kopecky produced the only two goals in the third period to solidify the 3-0 Blackhawks victory over the Kings yesterday in Los Angeles. Chicago goalie Antti Niemi was stellar through the entire contest, blanking LA’s lineup in the process of adding 17 saves to his own stat line. “We knew they have a good team and we focused on defense,” said Kopecky. “Everything starts with the defense.”
Troy Brouwer found the net halfway through the second block after both teams were shutout in the initial period. This marks the Blackhawks first win at the Staples Center since 2003. They also earned the regular season advantage against the Kings 3-1 with the recent W. Chicago is scheduled to take on the Phoenix Coyotes this Saturday as the Kings matchup against the New York Islanders.
