Paramount Theatre Reopens

Posted by Ace Staff on March 16th, 2010 in Concerts, Theatre

Emerson College was proud to reintroduce Downtown Crossing’s Paramount Theatre on Saturday, opening its doors for the first time in 34 years. “The damage that was done to the spaces was incredible,” said Peggie Ings, Emerson vice president for government and communications. “You got an incredible sense of: Why did someone let this happen? These are beautiful spaces.”

The 550-capacity venue also¬†showcases a “black box” performance space and film screening hall. As many as 8,000 bulbs were installed outside, allowing it to be recognized down Washington St and the Avenue de Lafayette. “It creates an extended theater district, an extended entertainment district.” said executive director of arts Robert Orchard. “It creates many many more choices for the public.” Orchard is planning to host over 20 shows come September.
