Bruins Edge Jackets in SO, End 4-game Skid

Posted by Ace Staff on March 16th, 2011 in Sports

Tuukka Rask collected 34 saves and stopped all three shootout attempts as rookie Tyler Seguin stepped up for the lone score in OT to lift the Boston Bruins past the Columbus Blue Jackets 3-2 yesterday at Nationwide Arena. The B’s were desperate for a win after four consecutive losses to the Penguins, Canadiens, Sabres and Islanders. They now rank third in the Eastern Conference behind the Flyers and Capitals with a 39-21-9 regular season record.

Grant Clitsome notched the initial goal for Columbus with one minute remaining in the first period. David Krejci found the net 12:20 into the second to even the score. The third block featured another Columbus goal supplied by Scottie Upshall just two minutes before Rich Peverley retaliated for Boston, setting the stage for Rask in Seguin in the defensive heavy shootout.

“Definitely, it was one of his biggest and best games of the year,” Boston coach Claude Julien said of Rask. “He was very poised and I thought he did a great job in the shootout.” The Bruins have two more road games this week in Nashville and Toronto before they return to the Garden to host the Devils, Canadiens and Rangers. Boston Bruins regular season and playoff tickets are now available!
