Anthony, Billups Light Up MSG in Knicks Debut

Posted by Ace Staff on February 24th, 2011 in Sports

Carmelo Anthony appeared to have an easy transition back to his hometown, contributing 27 points and 10 rebounds in his first game in New York Knicks uniform en route to a 114-108 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks Wednesday at Madison Square Garden. “This was ordinary for him, and that’s the highest compliment of what he does. You drop him in any place, any playground, any place in the world and he’ll put up 27 points and 10 rebounds,” said Knicks coach Mike D’Antoni. “That’s what he does for a living.”

Earlier this week a blockbuster deal was completed that sent Anthony with Denver teammates Chauncey Billups, Shelden Williams, Anthony Carter and Renaldo Balkman to New York for Wilson Chandler, Raymond Felton, Danilo Gallinari, Timofey Mozgov and a 2014 first-round draft pick. Billups had no problem controlling the tempo for the Knicks, netting 21 points while distributing eight assists. Toney Douglas came through for New York with 23 points from 10-of-12 shooting off the bench.

Both Anthony and Billups were embraced with standing ovations and loud cheers by Knicks fans all around, who have been starved of a good lineup for over a decade. “I never experienced anything like that before,” said Anthony. “That was a hell of a moment for the fans to react the way they did.” New York Knicks basketball is back!
