Boston Celtics PG Rajon Rondo will make his third consecutive All-Star appearence, replacing Atlanta’s Joe Johnson and claiming the East’s final slot for this weekend’s festivities. Johnson recently injured his left knee and will take these next few days to rest up before the regular season continues on. Oklahoma City All-Star Kevin Durant will step in for Johnson in the 3-point contest. The Celtics were thrilled to hear that Rondo was named an All-Star and believed he should have been selected originally over New Jersey point guard Deron Williams.

“He clearly thought he should have made it, and so did we, but the injury, honestly, he was just injured at the wrong time,” said Boston coach Doc Rivers. “Right when people were voting. It’s good that he’s on it. I think it bothered him. He came back and we were rolling, so I think that drove him to want to play better than who was on the team.”

Rondo is averaging 14.8 points, 4.9 rebounds, 9.6 assists and 1.6 steals in 22 games this season. The five-year veteran just finished serving a two-game suspension after flipping a ball to a game official in Sunday’s loss to the Pistons. He will join Celtics captain Paul Pierce on the East squad as the rest of the C’s take the weekend off before starting up again Tuesday at Cleveland.
