After a four game skid that included two regulation and two overtime losses, the Boston Bruins showed up big against the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday night. Carolina would start off the scoring with the a Matt Cullen goal in the 11th minute of the first period. After that, it was all Bruins. Blake Wheeler put Boston on the board with a power play goal with less than three minutes left in the first. Sean Hnidy hit the back of the net on a David Krejci assist five minutes into the second. In the third period, the B’s opened it up. In just one minute of game time, Krejci scored on a power play, and Chuck Kobasew (fed by Zdeno Chara and PJ Axelsson) hit a shorthanded shot to give the black and gold a 4-1 lead. Patrice Bergeron put the nail in the coffin by scoring on an empty canes net with less than a minute left.
Even after the losing skid, the Bruins still have the best record and most points in the NHL. Their 88 points are three ahead of the Western Conference best San Jose Sharks , and 11 ahead of the Washington Capitals; the closest team in the East. The Bruins will travel to Florida to face the Panthers on Saturday, February 21st.
