Celtics Late Rally Tops Mavs

Posted by Ace Staff on February 13th, 2009 in Homepage, Sports

The Boston Celtics made a dramatic comeback on Thursday night to finish the first half of the season with a .800 winning percentage. Rajon Rondo had his second career triple double, although his coach Doc Rivers was not there to see it. Rivers was ejected in the third quarter after a heated exchange between Kevin Garnett and Dirk Nowitzki. Garnett racked up three fouls, and River had two technicals for arguing in less than a minute of game time. “It gave us a nice little spark,” Pierce told Stephen Hawkins of the AP. “It can go one of two ways. The coach is gone in the last game before the All-Star break, you can pack it in. But this group is very competitive. We’re going to fight.” That spark took a Celtics team down by 15 to getting their first lead of the game on a Paul Pierce jumper.

The Celtics had 30 points in a defensively dominant fourth quarter; only allowing 17 points. The Celtics head into the All-Star Break with a 44-11 record, good for first place in the Eastern Conference. The C’s lead the Cleveland Cavaliers by two games, and the Orlando Magic by four.
