Red Sox, Ortiz Avoid Arbitration With One-Year Deal

Posted by Caitlin on February 13th, 2012 in Sports

The Boston Red Sox have officially reached a deal with their beloved designated hitter David Ortiz, signing the 15-year veteran to a one-year contract worth $14.575 million, according to the team’s official website. The team and Ortiz were able to avoid an arbitration case, mere hours before the hearing was scheduled to proceed. “Both sides are very happy with the deal and we’ll leave it at that,” said Ortiz’s agent Fernando Cuza. “This is a process and once we got together and talked it out it made sense to get a deal done and move on.”

The deal was at mid-point value of what both teams were asking for– the Red Sox at $12.65 million and Ortiz at $16.5 million. Both sides, it seems, should be happy. Ortiz will get a raise from his $12.5 million last season and the Red Sox have their fan-favorite slugger back for another year.                                                         Boston Red Sox tickets are now available!
