Flyers Notch OT Victory in NJ

Posted by Ace Staff on February 11th, 2010 in Sports

Simon Gagne produced the final goal in overtime for the Philadelphia Flyers to defeat the New Jersey Devils 3-2 for the second time in three days Wednesday night at the Prudential Center. The Devils started strong in the first eight minutes of regulation with two goals from Travis Zajac and Rob Niedermayer. Arron Asham cut the lead in half just 32 seconds after NJ posted their second goal to wrap the scoring in the first block.

The second period featured a Jeff Carter goal to tie it up as the Flyers defense held the Devils scoreless. Both teams suffered in regards to offensive production in the third, leaving Gagne to clinch the win for Philadelphia 3:27 into OT.

“I think it is a good test to show what we are made of, where this team has come from and where this team needs to get to,” said Flyers defenseman Chris Pronger. “We certainly don’t want to make a habit of getting down 2-0 in games and hopefully, that will be the last. Like I said, you don’t do this against the New Jersey Devils too often.”

New Jersey will next play host to the Florida Panthers tomorrow night as the Flyers prepare for back-to-back games against the Montreal Canadiens.
