Bruins Down Canadiens in Slugfest at Home

Posted by Ace Staff on February 10th, 2011 in Sports

Nathan Horton provided a goal and four assists to lead his Boston Bruins to win over their longtime rival Montreal Canadiens in a physical 8-6 shootout last night at TD Garden. The heated battle featured 187 collective penalty minutes with Boston called for 24 penalties and Montreal whistled for 21.

“Today was a big game. A lot of points were on the line. Important points,” said Canadiens forward Brian Gionta, who scored his 200th NHL goal. “It’s just an emotional game, and that’s what you saw out there.” The Bruins found momentum early with a pair of goals supplied by Brad Marchand and Dennis Seidenberg before the end of the first period. Both teams tacked up four goals apiece in the fight-filled second block.

The tempo never slowed with Max Pacioretty pulling the Canadiens within 1 to start the third. Horton and Michael Ryder then came through for Boston to solidify the W. Pacioretty scored again in the final minute but it was too late to cover the deficit from there. Boston is next set to welcome in the Detroit Red Wings tomorrow night at 7:00 PM. Boston Bruins tickets are now available!
