BC Wins 15th Beanpot Title

Posted by Ace Staff on February 9th, 2010 in Sports

The BC Eagles relied heavily on goalie and tournament MVP John Muse for 31 saves as the offense took control with 4 goals to Boston University‘s 3 to claim their 15th Beanpot championship yesterday at the TD Garden. So far this season Muse is 11-6-2 with a .912 save percentage.

“If there’s one thing about John, he’s a competitor. He wants to win. He wants to get those games, he wants to play those minutes,” said BC captain Matt Price. “He did a great job, especially coming off that surgery. He worked really hard.” Barry Almeida solidified the victory with a game-winning score early in the third period. Steve Whitney, Carl Sneep and Chris Kreider notched the other three goals for the Eagles.

The Northeastern Huskies were able to finish strong in the consolation match, easily controlling Harvard 4-1. Wade MacLeod produced two goals in the third period to give his team their 13th win of the season. Rawlings made 27 saves that included 14 in the second period. “The one common thread that is visible when he’s on his game is how aggressive he is and how square to the puck he is,” said Northeastern coach Greg Cronin. “There were very few second shots because he was really controlling the rebounds so well.”
