Marian Garborik netted a goal in each period to lift the New York Rangers past the Colorado Avalanche 3-1 Sunday at Pepsi Arena. Gaborik last produced a hat trick during his five goal performance against his fellow Rangers as a member of the Minnesota Wild back in 2007. The 10-year veteran RW is currently leading New York in total points with 33 goals and 32 assists.
“It’s a boost of energy for this club and myself as well to finally get a win and feel good about ourselves,” said Gaborik after saving his team from losing their sixth consecutive contest. The Avalanche have also been struggling since falling short against Minnesota and Dallas last weekend.
“Anytime a guy scores a hat trick, it’s a good offensive night,” said Colorado’s T.J. Galiardi. “We’ve got to know a guy like that is going to be a threat all night and he burned us.” The Avs eventually broke the shutout through Cody McLeod’s goal 12:39 into the third. Colorado is set to face off against the Columbus Blue Jackets tonight as the Rangers travel west to take on the Kings.
