House of Blues Buys Lansdowne Street Clubs

Posted by Ace Staff on January 29th, 2008 in Concerts, General, Ticket Sales

One of Boston’s main entertainment entrepreneurs, Patrick Lyons, has decided to sell two of his clubs located on Lansdowne Street, across from Fenway Park to the House of Blues Entertainment company name. The two clubs formerly known as Axis and Avalon are currently undergoing a $14-million dollar renovation, but will open as one new club under a new name and owner.

The $14-million dollar renovations taking place will combine the areas of both clubs, creating a space big enough to accommodate 2,500 people, a 350 person luxury-seat lounge/function room, and a 125 seat restaurant located on the premises. House of Blues will be calling the new building the Music Hall.

Lyons has decided to back away from the club/music scene to focus on the restaurants that he owns throughout New England. He is currently financing a project underneath the center field bleachers at Fenway Park, and hopes to open a 250 seat restaurant there by the early months of the 2008 MLB season.

In the past, House of Blues Entertainment and Lyons have done business together. Last year, House of Blues bought the Paradise Rock Club located on Commonwealth Avenue from Lyons. House of Blues Entertainment happens to be owned by Live Nation, who specialized in concert ticket sales.

Due to the buildings increase in size after the renovations are complete, the House of Blues is expected to draw bigger name acts that have always shied away from the smaller music venue of Avalon. It will be a great opportunity for bands to come to Boston that would have trouble drawing crowds at the TD Banknorth Garden.

The sale price of Lyon’s clubs to House of Blue Entertainment has not yet been publicly announced. Make sure to check the Ace Ticket website for any concerts or shows that will be held at new House of Blues Boston Music Hall on Lansdowne Street.
