Ray Allen hit the go-ahead jumper with 24 seconds left in regulation to lift the Boston Celtics past the Detroit Pistons 86-82 yesterday at the TD Garden. Despite shooting just 25 percent on the night for seven total points, Allen was able to deliver in the clutch once again for his veteran Celtics teammates. “I wasn’t shooting the ball particularly well,” said Allen. “But I always feel like the next shot is going to go in, so I was never worried about it.” The Boston two-guard is currently chasing the record books, just 28 3-pointers away from Reggie Miller on the NBA’s career list.

Paul Pierce led the C’s in scoring with 22 points. Shaquille O’Neal controlled the inside game with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Rajon Rondo produced a quiet six points, eight assists and eight rebounds during his 40 minutes on the floor. Detroit had five players score in double digits, shooting 40 percent from the floor while pressuring Boston to commit 18 turnovers.

“We competed with the best team in the East, and one of the better teams in this league, on their home court,” said Pistons guard Tracy McGrady. “If we can give this type of effort night-in and night-out, we’re going to give ourselves a chance.” The Celtics will next welcome in the Utah Jazz Friday, January 21st before they travel to Washington DC to matchup with the Wizards the following day.
