The Boston Opera House will soon open its doors to Broadway musical American Idiot for eight shows starting Tuesday, January 24th. The nationwide tour just wrapped production in Toronto and will stop in Boston before hitting up other cities that include Raleigh, Chicago, Minneapolis, St Louis, Denver, Los Angeles, Dallas, Seattle and San Francisco.
American Idiot is an adaptation of punk rock band Green Day’s 2004 concept album under the same name. The story, expanded from that of the rock opera album, revolves around Johnny, a disaffected youth who flees his suburbia lifestyle to test the waters of the early excitement and freedoms that go hand in hand with city living.
Following its Broadway release in 2010, the show took home two Tony Awards for Best Scenic Design of a Musical and Best Lighting Design of a Musical. Charles Isherwood of The New York Times states: “The show is as invigorating and ultimately as moving as anything I’ve seen on Broadway this season.”
