ESPN’s Peter Gammons has reported that the Boston Red Sox have signed first-baseman Kevin Youkilis to a four-year extension worth over $40 million. The deal includes a fifth year option for $13 million, and covers his final two years of arbitration and two years of free agency. Youkilis hit .312 last year with 29 home runs and 115 runs batted in, is just one year removed from winning a Gold Glove at first, and came in third in American League MVP voting.
