Martin Hanzal and Peter Mueller scored the initial goals in the first period as the Phoenix Coyote defense held on from there, eventually defeating the Chicago Blackhawks 3-1 last night in Glendale, AZ. Despite the 2-goal deficit, the Blackhawks handled Phoenix in regards to general scoring opportunities.  In total they put 32 shots on goal to the Coyotes 23.

Kris Versteeg put Chicago’s only point on the board 14 minutes into the second period. This would mark the last exciting occurrence on the offensive end, as both teams were shut out completely in the final period.”We’ve got to bear down and try to get to those opportunities,” said Versteeg. “If we score on half our opportunities it’s totally a different game.”

The Hawks are set to face off against the Colorado Avalanche tonight before hosting the Los Angeles Kings on Monday, November 9th.  Chicago Blackhawks tickets are available now!

The Boston Red Sox haven’t wasted any time preparing for 2010 this offseason. The organization recently traded away left-handed pitchers Hunter Jones and Jose Alvarez for Florida Marlins outfielder Jeremy Hermida. Picked 11th overall in the 2002 draft, Hermida has earned a career batting average of .265. In 516 total games played he’s knocked 57 homers and 210 RBI’s.

“We still think there’s a good hitter in there,” said Red Sox GM Theo Epstein. “Jeremy is a player who hasn’t fulfilled his potential yet. We were able to acquire him at a reasonable cost to see if he can fulfill that potential with us.”

For the Marlins in 2009 the 25 year old Hermida made just one error out of 205 total chances for a .995 fielding percentage. He was limited to 81 games due to an intercostal strain halfway through the year. Check for more Sox updates during this year’s critical offseason. Patriots Dolphins Preview

Following a bye week the New England Patriots are set to face the Miami Dolphins this Sunday at Gillette Stadium.  The division rivals have yet to see each other so far this regular season. After the weekend they will meet again on December 6th at Land Shark Stadium. New England currently holds the top spot in the AFC East with a 5-2 record.  The Dolphins are just below .500 in third place behind the New York Jets.

Miami LB Joey Porter had some choice words about Tom Brady and the Patriots when interviewing with Rich Eisen from the NFL network.  The 11-year veteran called Brady out for influencing officials, and from there continued to discuss New England’s “unfair tactics” used in the past.

“He (Brady) just points to the ref and he gets a flag. So I can honestly say that he gets his own rules,” said Porter. “I still don’t care for New England. The hate’s been there for a while, especially after all the cheating they did back in the day. They can sweep it under the rug if they want to, but just like anybody else that’s cheating that gets caught, you put an asterisk by it. But nobody puts an asterisk by those championships.”

The Patriots should likely retaliate with their play on the field Sunday. After these kinds of statements the squad will certainly be fired up and ready to go. New England Patriots tickets are available right here at AceTicket.com!

The Boston Bruins avoided their third consecutive scoreless game with a Patrice Bergeron goal with just seconds remaining to test the Montreal Canadiens in overtime last night at the TD Garden. The shootout featured just one goal produced by Mike Cammalleri for the Habs to take this one 2-1. The Bruins have come up with just 11 goals collectively in their nine losses.

Players were definitely relieved to at least get on the board after a pair of dismal performances against the New York Rangers and Detroit Red Wings. “At least it’s out of our heads now,” said Bergeron. “It’s one step forward to get that goal and get that point. But one point is not good enough.” Bergeron first found a way past goalie Carey Price with 2:25 left in the second period. The score was then taken away minutes later after review.

“In my head there was a moment where you go, ‘That figures,’” said Tim Thomas. “But then the other voice in my head rebounded right away and said, ‘No. We’re not going to say Here we go again. We’ve got to do something.’ I was trying to send some positive mental energy to the team to do something.”

Boston will now look forward to their next matchup against the Buffalo Sabres this Saturday at 7:00 PM. Boston Bruins tickets are now available!

The Sox will first officially meet for spring training by the end of February. Their first game in Florida will be against the Tampa Bay Rays on March 6th. Stay tuned for more updates this offseason. 2010 Boston Red Sox schedule and tickets are available right here at AceTicket.com!

Rajon Rondo took charge as floor general and scored 14 of his 18 points in the third quarter as the Boston Celtics beat out the Minnesota Timberwolves 92-90 yesterday at the Target Center. Rondo and the rest of the starting five all produced double digit numbers for the C’s.

Minnesota looked as though they were the dominant team of the night through the first half. Eventually Boston’s veteran leadership overcame the inexperienced and young Timberwolves roster.

“We played hard, we played with a lot of energy,” said Wolves forward Oleksiy Pecherov. “We just have to learn how to finish these games. We’ve been playing the last three games with great effort. To lose at the end of the game is kind of hard. It’s what we need to learn about.” Pecherov and former Celtics big man Al Jefferson led Minnesota in scoring with 24 and 18.

Kevin Garnett posted a nice stat line against his old squad with 12 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks. “I’m so numb when I come in here,” said Garnett. “I sort of put my face on as I say. I get so intense…It’s easy to come in here and focus because I don’t have any of my old teammates here anymore.”

After battling through their first true road test the C’s will welcome the Phoenix Suns to the TD Garden this Friday at 7:30 PM. Boston Celtics tickets are available now!

Hideki Matsui really lived up to the name Godzilla with three hits and six RBI’s last night at Yankee Stadium, as the New York Yankees went on to win Game 6 and the World Series over the Philadelphia Phillies for their 27th championship. Matsui will be joining the list of free agents this offseason, and certainly has proved to the organization that he is worth every penny they are giving him. “It’s awesome,” Matsui said through a translator. “Unbelievable. I’m surprised myself.”

Veteran Andy Pettitte notched the win from five innings pitched, letting up three runs and four hits.  Mariano Rivera seemed collected as usual while putting the series to a close. The trusted right-hander allowed just one hit through the final five outs.

The Yankees were in control all game after Matsui’s two-run homer in the second. They were up 7-1 in the 6th when Ryan Howard knocked a longball to left, bringing in Chase Utley to pull within four. “You don’t look at it as a failure,” said Howard. “We had a great season. We just got beat by the better team.”

Alex Rodriguez, after a dramatic year full of injury and steroid allegations was thrilled at the thought of finally collecting a ring next April. “My teammates, coaches and the organization stood by me and now we stand here as world champions,” said Rodriguez. “We’re going to enjoy it, and we’re going to party!” Already looking forward to 2010? Dirk, Mavericks Outplay Jazz

After three quarters of basketball yesterday at the American Airlines Center, Dirk Nowitzki was just 5-for-14 from the field with his team down by 15.  The Dallas Mavericks then rallied for 44 fourth quarter points to defeat the Utah Jazz 96-85. Nowitzki set a franchise record with 29 points himself in the final frame.

“It was an ugly game,” said Nowitzki. “We couldn’t get anything going for three quarters. We were slow. We were looking for a spark offensively and I was able to do that tonight.” Dirk finished with a total stat line of 40 points, 11 rebounds, five assists, two steals, and five blocks.

Utah’s defensive specialist Carlos Boozer was tied up on the bench with five fouls when Nowitzki went to work on the rest of the squad. Jason Kidd supplied 19 points for the Mavs, including the dagger from downtown to seal the game in the final minutes.  Dallas will next host the Toronto Raptors and Houston Rockets on November 7th and 10th. The Jazz have a pair of home games themselves on the 5th and 7th against the San Antonio Spurs and Sacramento Kings.

Henrik Zetterberg and Tomas Holmstrom scored the only two goals in the first period for the Detroit Red Wings to handle the Boston Bruins Tuesday at Joe Louis Arena. Goalie Chris Osgood denied 29 Boston shot attempts, marking his 50th shutout and 394th career victory.

“I don’t put much merit in shutouts,” said Osgood. “The only thing they’re good for is that you know you have a great chance of winning the game. I grew up watching Grant Fuhr play and he was just about winning games, so that’s kind of my mentality.”

The Bruins after struggling in their last two games can only look ahead to matching up against the Canadiens this Thursday in Boston. Coach Claude Julien is done with the excuses, saying “we’re going to have to decide that we’re tired of hearing we had a good effort without winning.” After battling Montreal, the TD Garden will then play host to the Buffalo Sabres. Rasheed Wallace was more than comfortable in his hometown last night during Boston’s 105-74 romping over the Philadelphia 76ers. The premier 6th man netted six threes while gathering six rebounds and two steals. Whenever traveling to the place of his upbringing, Sheed will always make it a point to perform at his best.

“It’s home. A lot of friends and family don’t get the opportunity to see me play,” said Wallace. “Everybody can’t get that league pass and all that stuff. It’s always fun to come back here and play.”

Paul Pierce led the 5-0 Celtics in scoring with 21 points. Eddie House and Rajon Rondo added insurance to the blowout with 12 and 11. Philadelphia hit just 1 of 15 from beyond the arc. Andrew Iguodala and Thaddeus Young were the only Sixers to reach double digit numbers.

The Celtics are scheduled to square off against the Timberwolves tonight in Minnesota. Boston Celtics tickets are available now!
