Information
Originally based in Boston and Milwaukee, the Braves moved to Atlanta in 1966. The Braves have won three world series titles in their storied history, and won a record 14 consecutive National League East division titles from 1991 to 2005.
In the 2006 and 2007 seasons the Braves fell short of the playoffs and finished third in the NL East. Last season they ended the regular season in 4th place with a 72-90 record. The Braves are due to be in playoff contention for the 2009 season. They were once so familiar with consistently holding their division spot, but as the Phillies and Mets grow stronger it is harder for them to stay on top.
Braves veteran Tom Glavine is currently in the process of working out a deal with Atlanta. He desires to pitch at least one more season in a Braves uniform. Chipper Jones also is in search for a contract extension. If these two stick around maybe they will be able to show the new Braves club how to make a playoff run like they did many times before. Although they have tough competition between Philadelphia and New York, Atlanta will remain a contender.
