Information

The American League Division Series serves as the opening playoff rounds for all AL teams that qualify for MLB post-season play. Created after the 1993 season, the series features the winners of the three AL divisions and one wild-card team. The most amount of ALDS matchups between teams is four. The Boston Red Sox faced the Los Angeles Angels in 2004, 2007, 2008, and 2009.

The Division series is organized through a 2-2-1 format. The higher seed plays at home for Games 1 and 2, and the lower seed hosts Games 3 and 4. If necessary, the teams return to the higher seeds stadium for the deciding game. The 2008 rounds showcased the Red Sox defeating Anaheim in four games and the White Sox beating out the Rays in four as well. Last seasons contests featured the Yankees and Angels sweeping the Twins and Red Sox
