311 information, In 1989, the band known as '311' (pronounced three eleven) formed in Omaha, Nebraska and originally performed many local shows at bars in clubs in the area. Their musical structure incorporates a wide variety of stylistic elements including hip-hop, punk, reggae, funk, and alternative-rock. 311 is currently made up of five members, but the band’s name originated from an incident that occurred with two of the original band-mates who had been arrested for indecent exposure. In Omaha, the code for indecent exposure happens to be code 311.

311 has enjoyed a lot of commercial success branching from its large fan base. Since their self-titled album in 1995, every album but one has been in the top 15 of the Billboard 200 charts. Nineteen of their singles have received major radio play since 1993. Five of those songs were top 3 hits on Billboard's Modern Rock Tracks chart.

A new album is currently being worked on and is expected to be released in the early summer of 2008. Before the album is out, 311 will be going on a mini-tour in eight cities including a stop in New Orleans, LA on March 11th (3/11). This is the bands first trip back to the city since Hurricane Katrina hit.
